Secret Ingredient Smoothies are a Big Hit

Some of the best foods for you may not be your favorite flavors. And some things that you like to eat may not be as common in your day to day diet.

In order to ensure that you are getting the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals needed for a healthy body and brain you can add them as secret ingredients to your smoothie.

Our family likes to add the ingredients and then after we drink the smoothie, you are able to try to share your thoughts on what the secret ingredients are. Bananas and vanilla easily disappear and it's fun, too!

Here are 8 secret ingredients you can enjoy:

1. Avacado. For instance some people don't like the texture or taste of an avacado, but when added to a berry smoothie, it isn't even noticed. Avacados have healthy fats, and its creamy green meat offers approximately 20 vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including vitamins K, C, E, B, potassium and lutein. Lutein is good for your eyes as it is deposited into the retina and works to filter out harmful light. Lutein protects the eye from free radicals, thus reduces your chances of developing diseases such as macular degeneration and cataracts as you age.

2. Spinach. Fresh spinach can leave a funny taste in ones mouth, but when added to a smoothie it turns into a creamy solution. And often will be forgotten that it was even added. Spinach is an ideal form of magnesium, calcium, and iron. It also offers fiber that your body needs, along with vitamins and minerals that help build muscle, good for your eyes, and reduces stomach ulcers.

3. Green tea powder. One ingredient that can promote weight loss and trigger release of fat from your cells (thanks to the catechins) is green tea powder. It doesn't really have much taste so you won't even notice it in your smoothie. Green tea is well known for its weight loss promoting powers. Adding green tea powder to your smoothie can trigger release of fat from your cells, thanks to the catechins present in it.

4. Cinnamon. Cinnamon has a great taste and can help with weight loss by relieving bloating and water retention. When combined with other ingredients sometimes the taste becomes hidden within.

5. Flaxseeds. Ground up flaxseed and add to a smoothie to
provide soluble mucilaginous (gumlike) fiber that can lower bad cholesterol in blood. This ingredient doesn't really have a taste so it's perfect!

6. Ginger. Asian root ginger, an Ayurvedic superfood with numerous health benefits: It can boost your metabolism and also balance blood sugar levels, keeping you from wanting to overeat.

7. Beetroots. Although this causes your smoothie to become a bright red pink color, some people have no idea what beetroot is or why it is so important to our health. Beets are
rich in antioxidants and low in calories and sugar, thus being an excellent choice for healthy foods.

8. Bananas. Great for adding potassium and a good flavor to a smoothie! And they get so smooth, too
