Physical fitness options for kids in Happy Valley this winter

Playing and being physically fit is important for kids. Active kids gain strength, learn skills they can bring into school work, and keep their body lean which can reduce their risk of obesity. Plus, active kids sleep better!

In Oregon, the cold outside, rain, and sometimes snow can cause us to want to stay indoors more than going out. Luckily, there are many options for kids to stay fit in the winter!

For indoor options where your child will play on a team, check out local Basketball, Futsal, ice hockey, and Indoor Soccer teams. If outdoors is fine, soccer and skiing are great options.

If you are interested in having them learn self-defense skills while improving their strength and agility, they can take up Taekwondo, Aikido, and other martial arts classes.

When an individual and group class is more of what your child would like, you can look for yoga, crossfit, swimming, racquetball, and/or biking clubs around town. There are all kinds of places that can fit your needs.

Combining a fit lifestyle with a healthy diet leads to a healthy lifestyle. Being active as a family is important, too. Make sure you and your kids are making it a priority to be fit every day!
